Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former St. Scholastica baseball players and coaches gathered on Saturday to honor their late coach John Baggs in the fourth annual John Baggs Memorial Golf Tournament at the Enger Park Golf Course.
Baggs, who died four years ago after a fourth month battle with cancer, was the winningest coach in any sport at St. Scholastica.
Saints alumni started the tournament to not only raise money to help other cancer patients but also to remember their late coach.
Current Saints baseball head coach Corey Kemp played for Baggs for four years before joining his staff as an assistant. Kemp then took over as Baggs predecessor.
"He was a great person in the community and at his church. When all of these guys get back, his family and friends and the guys who played for him, it's a celebration of his life," Kemp said.
"It lets us reflect on how much he meant to me and how much he meant to us and what he did for all of us," Kemp said. "He really was a Dad to so many of the guys that were here this weekend"
