Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The St. Scholastica (CSS) women's soccer team has been picked to finish first in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) preseason coaches' poll, which was released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints were the unanimous favorite after receiving seven first-place votes with the University of Minnesota Morris in second with one first-place vote and the University of Northwestern third.
CSS has won 10 straight UMAC regular season titles and look to extend their streak to 11 consecutive titles this fall. They've also qualified for six of the last seven NCAA Division II Tournaments.
"You know, we've been doing this for the past few years, since I've been here and even before that, so we know we have a target on our back," said Saints senior forward Kelsey Kehtel. "We have to keep working every day in practice."
"Usually, our toughest competitor is our own team when we play in practice, so that's how we try to get each other ready for that," said Saints junior forward Leah Hamm. "We have to go hard all the time and then we'll be ready to face our other stronger conference team."
The Saints open up the season on August 29 in San Antonio, Tex. against Trinity University.
