Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Al 'The Haitian Temptation' Sands successfully defended his Minnesota state cruiserweight title on Friday night at Grandma's Sports Garden in Duluth, Minn., defeating Harvey Kilfian via technical knockout in eight rounds.
Sands dominated the early rounds of the fight, knocking Kilfian down in both the second and third rounds. The challenger, though, staged a bit of a comeback in the middle rounds and was able to knock Sands down for just the second time in his career.
The Floodwood, Minn. native regrouped from there, knocking Kilfian down one more time before finally putting a stop to the fight in the eighth round with his fourth knockdown of the match.
The fight was Sands' first defense of the state title since originally winning it in April 2013, and it was also a rematch of his 2012 win over Kilfian.
