Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Superior boy's hockey team left late Tuesday night for Madison and the team's 34th appearance in the WIAA state tournament.
The Spartans were intending to leave Wednesday but plans quickly changed ahead of the projected snowstorm in the Northland.
Superior beat New Richmond 3-0 in the section final on Saturday afternoon, giving the Spartans a shot at their record 13th state championship.
The team has 12 seniors this season and will play Notre Dame at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday in the state quarterfinals. Those two teams have played twice this regular season, with the Tritons winning both.
The WIAA state championship games will be shown on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
