Chippewa Falls, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Superior girls' basketball team earned a narrow 52-49 win on Thursday night over Chippewa Falls, earning a chance to play Saturday for a spot in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 1 tournament.

Chippewa Falls didn't hold a lead in the game until midway through the fourth quarter, but the Spartans used shutdown defense and timely scoring down the stretch to pull out the victory.

Hailey Kontny was the leading scorer for the Spartans in the winning effort, finishing with 17 points in the contest.

Superior is now (22-3) this season and will now play in the Sectional 1 championship game against either Oshkosh North or Neenah, with that game set for 4:00 p.m. on March 9 in Schofield, Wis.
