Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Superior girls' basketball team held practice on Tuesday afternoon at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium on the UW-Superior campus, trying to prepare for a bigger stage as they head this week to the state tournament.

The Spartans defeated Oshkosh North in the Sectional 1 championship this past Saturday, earning the program's first trip to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 1 tournament since 1995.

Superior is (23-3) this season and will play (21-4) Milwaukee Riverside in the state semifinals, with that game scheduled for 8:15 p.m. on March 15 at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis.

The entire WIAA girls' basketball tournament can be seen on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network, with the championship games set for March 16.
