Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Maureen Stormont and Dani Potter each scored on Thursday night, lifting the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's soccer team to a 2-1 season-opening win over Northern Michigan at Malosky Stadium.
Stormont scored the only goal of the first half, with that coming in the ninth minute for UMD and moving her into the top 10 for all-time scoring for the Bulldogs.
Potter then added her tally in the second half, with that coming on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.
Ashley Katers scored a goal in the 76th minute for the Wildcats, but UMD sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Rosa was perfect from there to earn the win with two saves.
UMD is now (1-0-0) this season and will next be in action on Sunday for a road match against NCAA Division I opponent North Dakota State University.
