Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- It's easy just looking at Al Sands to tell he's big, he's quick, and he's strong. All three of those qualities are important to a professional boxer, but Sands has something else --- a great ring name.

He calls himself the "Haitian Temptation."

"I wanted a name that ties in my Haitian roots," Sands said, laughing, "with my good looks."

Sands' good looks that have stayed that way because he's the one giving out the punches, collecting an (8-1) record as a professional boxer.

"Boxing is very unique," Sands said. "Not only is it a way to prepare your body, but you also have to prepare your mind for it.

Helping Sands to prepare is former professional boxer Zach "Jungle Boy" Walters.

"It's been a real fast track for Al Sands," Walters said. "He's a natural athlete and a very gifted individual."

Sands spends several hours working out at the gym each day and then runs five to nine miles on his own.

"It's been my passion since I was younger," Sands said. "Just staying active and to be 'me,' boxing allows me that opportunity."

It's an opportunity that Sands is passing onto younger generations.

"I can show them they can do this instead of going to do that," Sands said of the kids he helps train. "I'm just giving them something positive to look forward to."

They can also look forward to watching Sands fight on Saturday at Black Bear Casino for the Minnesota State Title.

"Put my number one ranking on the line to be considered the champion," Sands said, "and to beat everyone there is to beat."
