Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Outfielder Denard Span has been traded from Minnesota to Washington in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Alex Meyer, the Twins front office announced on Thursday.

Meyer was drafted by Washington with the 23rd overall selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, and he put together a (10-6) record with a 2.86 earned run average at the Single-A level this past season.

Span, meanwhile, has been in the Minnesota organization since being taken in the first round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft. He played 589 games for the Twins, hitting for a .284 average with 230 runs batted in and 90 stolen bases.
