Josh Willingham and Trevor Plouffe each hit home runs in the winning effort, and rookie outfielder Aaron Hicks managed his first-ever major league hit with a two-run single in the eighth inning. Mike Pelfrey pitched his first regular season game following Tommy John surgery, allowing no earned runs and just five hits across 5.1 innings while striking out one.
