Two Harbors, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Two Harbors, Minn. native and Duluth East graduate Zack Fitzgerald has signed a contract to play and serve as an assistant coach with Braehead Clan of the United Kingdom-based Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), the team announced on Monday afternoon.

“It was important we brought more size and toughness on the point," head coach Ryan Finnerty said. "Zack comes with a tough reputation but we will look for him to combine that with playing smart minutes for us."

Fitzgerald has played more than 500 career games in the American Hockey League (AHL), most recently playing the 2013-14 year for Adirondack and totaling zero goals and one assist in 38 games.

The longtime minor league pro made his way to the NHL just once, playing one game on Feb. 5, 2008 for the Vancouver Canucks against the Dallas Stars.
