Minneapolis, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Minnesota rookies Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams have been selected to participate in the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge during the NBA All-Star weekend.
The event will, for the first time, feature a draft-type atmosphere featuring the league's rookies and second-year players. The draft will happen February 16, and the game will be played February 24.
Rubio currently leads all rookies with 9.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game, and he also ranked third in scoring with 11.2 points per contest.
Named the Western Conference rookie of the month in January, Rubio is tied for first in the league in point-assist double-doubles with 11 so far this year.
Williams, meanwhile, is average 7.6 points and 4.0 rebounds while playing 18.3 minutes per game this season. He has scored in double figures 10 times so far this year, the most by any NBA rookie forward.
