Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) has started a nationwide search for a new, permanent athletic director to fill the role left by Bob Nielson's departure in December 2012. The role has been filled, and will continue to be filled through the 2012-13 athletic year, in an interim role by former assistant athletic director Karen Stromme. Stromme said in December that she would like to be considered for the permanent job, but UMD Chancellor Dr. Lendley Black wouldn't comment at that time about her potential long-term future in the job. Dr. Black announced Monday that UMD professor Vince Magnuson will serve as chairman of the search committee, which will be composed of student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and alumni. Community members are encouraged to suggest names to the search committee before March 14, with a confidential review to begin in early April.
