Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) head football coach Bob Nielson has been named one of five finalists for the 2012 Division II Liberty Mutual coach of the year award, it was announced on Tuesday. This marks the second time in three seasons Nielson has reached finalist status, the other coming in 2010 when he eventually won the national award. Nielson, also the athletics director at UMD, just completed his 10th season as the Bulldogs head coach, helping the team this year to a (10-2) overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament. The 10-year coach has overseen two NCAA Division II championships during his time with UMD, those coming in 2008 and 2010, and he has amassed an overall record of (100-26) with the Bulldogs. Fans can vote online for one of the five finalists through Dec. 20 at the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year website, with the winner to be announced the morning of Jan. 7. The winner will receive a $50,000 donation to the charity of their choice and a $20,000 scholarship grant given in their name to their school's alumni association.
