UMD's Schuler, Lacquette Win Gold Medals

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's hockey assistant coach and sophomore defenseman Brigette Lacquette are each returning to the Bulldogs for 2013 with a newly-won gold medal to show off.

Schuler won hers as an assistant coach with Canada's Under-18 squad, which won the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) world championship this past Saturday in Finland.

Lacquette's gold also comes as a member of Team Canada, with the UMD sophomore helping her Under-22 team to a win over Russia in the gold medal game of the 2013 Meco Cup.

A native of Mallard, Manitoba, Lacquette finished with a goal and an assist in the gold medal game to total three points on the tournament.

Three other current UMD players were taking part in the 2013 Meco Cup, those being Pernilla Winberg (Sweden), Marie Delarbre (Germany), and Tea Villila (Finland).

The tournament also featured three former Bulldogs, those being Jennifer Harss (Germany), Jenni Asserholt (Sweden), and Iya Gavrilova (Russia).
