UPDATE: Vikings' Peterson Arrested in Houston

July 7, 2012 Updated Oct 27, 2013 at 1:37 AM CDT

Houston, TX (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Saturday morning after an altercation with three off-duty police officers, that according to a report filed Saturday by NFL.com.

The report cites Houston Police Department spokesperson Kese Smith, who said Saturday Peterson allegedly pushed an off-duty police officer working security at the Houston nightclub.

The officer reportedly asked twice for Peterson and his group of friends to leave at bar close, but the Vikings star pushed him in the shoulder and caused him to stumble backwards.

Smith said the officer then attempted to place Peterson under arrest, after which Peterson pulled away from him and began shouting.

Two other off-duty officers, both also working security at the nightclub, were needed to subdue Peterson, who was eventually handcuffed and escorted to jail.

The NFL.com report states Peterson was arrested on a charge of resisting arrest and was released on a $1,000 bond shortly after 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

The 27-year-old running back tore his anterior cruciate ligament on December 24 of last year, and he has been working toward a return to game action this season.

He has played five seasons with Minnesota, totaling 6,752 yards and 64 touchdowns in that time. The Vikings signed him to a seven-year, $96 million contract in 2011.

"We are aware of the situation," the team said Saturday in a statement. "We will withhold further comment until more information is known."

Peterson is set to appear before a Harris County judge on Friday, July 13.
