Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The UWS volleyball team and women's soccer team were both picked to finish last in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in a 2011 preseason poll.

The Yellowjackets volleyball team finished (9-27) in 2010, (0-8) in conference play, but welcomes back all of its starters from that squad.

Senior Sarah Gruber was ninth in the WIAC with 5.62 assists per game and second with 0.62 aces per game in 2010.

Head coach Lynne Deadrick, now the program's all-time wins leader, also returns and will have the opportunity to coach her daughter, Keely, who is a freshman in 2011.

The Yellowjackets women's soccer team, meanwhile, finished (3-16) last season, also (0-8) in conference play.

That team also did not lose any players to graduation, and returns senior Mandee Akason, who was the top scorer in 2010 with seven goals and 15 points.

Head coach Melissa Nelmark is entering her fourth year with the Yellowjackets, the second-longest tenure of any UWS women's soccer coach.
