Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The UW-Superior men's hockey team escaped on Thursday night with a 4-3 victory over St. Scholastica, marking the teams' final regular season meeting as members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Saints put together a late-game flurry, aided by 1:39 of a 5-on-3 powerplay turned into a 6-on-3 by pulling the goalie, but Yellowjackets goaltender Ryan Pinoniemi made a couple key saves in the final minutes to pull out the win. Pinoniemi made 27 saves in the contest, and Josh Kesler scored two goals for UW-Superior, both coming in the third period and the second being the eventual game-winner. Joey Massingham and Michael Rey were the other goal scorers for the Yellowjackets in the winning effort. Brett Corcoran, meanwhile, scored two of the goals for the Saints, and goaltender Tyler Bruggeman ended up with 29 saves in the loss. With the win, UW-Superior takes two of three games this season from St. Scholastica and improves to (11-8-1) overall while the Saints fall to (7-12-1) this season.
