Buffalo, NY (NNCNOW.com) --- Rodney Smith scored the lone touchdown on Friday night for the Minnesota Vikings, part of a 20-16 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y. Christian Ponder started the game at quarterback for Minnesota, going 5-for-12 for 53 yards and being sacked twice. McLeod Bethel Thompson led the Vikings with 107 passing yards, including the 35-yard scoring play to Smith. Adrian Peterson didn't play in the contest, but Minnesota was led in the rushing department by the 47 yards of Joe Banyard and the 23 yards of Toby Gerhart. Kyle Rudolph led Vikings receivers with three catches for 39 yards, and rookie Cordarrelle Patterson added two catches for 19 yards. Jamarca Sanford came up with the team's first takeaway of the preseason when he intercepted a Kevin Kolb pass in the first quarter, and the defense was led by the seven tackles of Marvin Mitchell.
