London, England (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder won't play on Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of a fractured rib, it was announced by head coach Leslie Frazier on Friday.
Ponder revealed on Wednesday that he was injured early on in his team's home loss last week's against Cleveland, but he was hoping to give it a go this week against Pittsburgh.
Instead, the start will go to backup quarterback Matt Cassel, whom the Vikings signed this offseason in an effort to improve the team's depth at the position.
Cassel has made 62 starts in his NFL career, with his most notable headlines being an (11-5) record with New England in 2008 and being named to the Pro Bowl in 20100 while with Kansas City.
Minnesota has started the season (0-3) and will take on Pittsburgh at London's Wembley Stadium at 12:00 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.
