Virginia, EG Send Doubles to State Tourney

Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Virginia and Eveleth-Gilbert will each send a doubles pairing to next week's MSHSL Class A girls' tennis tournament, that after the teams met on Tuesday afternoon in the Section 7A championship.

Virginia's Taylor Gunderson and Brylee Seitz won 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon over Eveleth-Gilbert's Lexi Brascguli and Katelyn Rice, giving the Bluejackets pairing the Section 7A title.

Both teams will now advance to the state tournament, with first-round matches for each coming Oct. 24 at the Read Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

GREYHOUNDS FALL IN SECTION 7AA TRUE SECOND MATCHES

The Duluth East girls' tennis team will advance no individuals to the MSHSL Class AA tournament after Elise Hauer and the doubles pairing of Brynne Hauer and Annagrace Norr fell in true second place matches on Tuesday afternoon.

Hauer fell in her singles match 7-5, 6-1 to Megan Brown of Elk River, while Hauer and Norr lost 6-2, 6-0 to the pairing of Taylor Shortly and Chase Shortly from Forest Lake.

Duluth East did qualify for the state tournament in the team competition, with the Greyhounds' quarterfinal match set for Oct. 22 on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, Minn.
