WCHA Coaches Slot Bulldogs Sixth in 2012-13

Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team has been picked to finish sixth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), that according to a poll of the league's 12 coaches.

The 42nd annual Grand Fork Herald WCHA preseason coaches' poll was released on Wednesday night, slotting Minnesota as the overwhelming preseason favorite.

The Golden Gophers received 11 of a possible 12 first-place votes in the poll, with second-place North Dakota receiving the other.

Denver, St. Cloud State, and Wisconsin are the other three teams topping UMD in the poll. The Bulldogs had previously been picked to finish fifth in the WCHA preseason media poll.

The Bulldogs are ranked #12 nationwide in the preseason U.S. College Hockey Online poll, that after finishing last year with a (25-10-6) overall record.

UMD will open the season at home on October 12-13 with a non-conference series against Ohio State. Those games are set for 7:07 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, and both can be seen on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
