Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Bob Nielson first joined the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) athletic family in 1999, but tomorrow could mark the end of his tenure as both the Bulldogs' football coach and the school's athletic director.

Sources at Western Illinois tell the Northland's NewsCenter that an official announcement is coming at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday to introduce the school's new football coach, a job for which Nielson is one of two remaining finalists.

There were originally three finalists for the position, but WGEM-TV is reporting that one of them has recently withdrawn his name for consideration.

Nielson was scheduled to be at our studios Tuesday evening to tape a scheduled segment of our "Bulldog Country" show, but he said via text message he would be unable to keep that commitment.

When pressed for the details surrounding his absence, there was no response from Nielson. This was the first contact we've had with Nielson since it was reported last week he was a finalist for the Western Illinois job.

The UMD coach has spent 10 seasons with the team, with that experience coming in two five-year increments. He has posted an overall record of (100-26) during that time and won two NCAA Division II championships (2008, 2010).
