Wild Lose to Kings in a Shootout in Opener

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Wild took a one-goal lead into the third period, but the Los Angeles Kings tied it up at 2-2 and went on to win in a shootout, 3-2 at the Xcel Energy Center on opening night for both teams.

Minnesota jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal from Matt Cooke. Los Angeles tied it later in the period off of a power-play goal from Drew Doughty. WIth the first period winding down, Jonas Brodin put the Wild back in front, 2-1.

The Kings used a third-period goal off of the stick of Jeff Carter to force overtime. After a scoreless OT, Los Angeles converted on its first two penalty shots while Minnesota failed to score.

The Wild return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 against the Ducks at 7:00 p.m.
