Wild's Backstrom Has Sports Hernia Surgery

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom underwent successful surgery for a sports hernia on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery for the 2013-13 season, it was announced by Minnesota general manager Chuck Fletcher.

Backstrom was injured in pregame warmups before game one of the Wild's first-round playoff series against Chicago, sitting out the entire five-game series and never even dressing as a backup.

The 35-year-old goaltender posted an overall record of (24-15-3) during the 2012-13 regular season, finishing with a 2.48 goals against average and a .909 saves percentage.
