#7 Bulldogs Survive Scare, Win Two in Missouri

Kirksville, MO (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The #7-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team survived a scare in its first match of 2012, recovering to beat McKendree 3-2 before sweeping Truman State at the Days Inn Bulldog Invitational in Kirksville, Mo.

Hibbing native and UMD junior outside hitter Kate Lange led the way for the Bulldogs in the season opener, finishing with 26 kills on a career-hugh 75 swings. She also added 17 digs and three blocks in the winning effort.

UMD freshman middle blocker Monica Turner had a monster collegiate debut, ending with 14 kills to go along with a team-high six blocks.

The second match was much easier for the Bulldogs, who finished with a three-set sweep of Truman State to finish the tournament's first day with a (2-0) record.

Lange again paced the UMD offense, finishing with 13 kills to go along with nine digs and three blocks. Junior middle blocker Kalli Lochner added nine kills and two blocks for the Bullodgs in the victory.
