Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Barnum, Minn. native and University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior forward Katrina Newman has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division preseason player of the year, it was announced on Wednesday.

It's the second straight year Newman has earned the preseason honor, with this one coming after she averaged 15.9 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Bulldogs as a junior.

The former Bombers standout has been named three times to the all-NSIC squad, with the past two being first team selections, and she was also named the NSIC newcomer of the year as a freshman.

Also on Wednesday, UMD was picked to finish sixth in the NSIC preseason coaches' poll, with that coming after a (14-13) performance in 2012-13.
