Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's basketball team and second-year head coach Matt Bowen held their first official practice of the 2013 season with 12 new faces on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs won just eight games last season but brought in 12 new players including eight freshmen. Bowen and his senior captain Brett Ervin are hoping to compete for a top half finish in the Northern Sun Conference this year.

"With the right balances, with the right maturation of our young kids, we could certainly play at that level. It's just going to take some hard work," said Bowen.

"I want to build for a championship. I mean, it's my last year so all I want to do is win a conference title and make it to the NCAA tournament and just go from there," said Ervin. "That's where I want to leave my mark here."
