Duluth, MN (NNCOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team has added three new recruits for the 2013-14 season, it was announced on Friday afternoon.
Shattuck-St. Mary's defenseman Willie Raskob joins two players from Spruce Grove in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), defenseman Carson Soucy and forward Sammy Spurrell, as the latest to sign national letters of intent to play with the Bulldogs.
Raskob finished this past winter with nine goals and 38 assists for Shattuck-St. Mary's, helping the team to the 2013 USA Hockey Tier 1 national tournament. He will become the third player from Shattuck-St. Mary's to join UMD, the other two being Joe Basaraba and Michael Gergen.
Soucy missed a large part of this past season with a knee injury, but he did manage to total five goals and 10 assists in just 35 games for Spruce Grove. He comes to UMD after just one season with the Saints in the AJHL.
Spurrell, on the other hand, will have spent three seasons in Spruce Grove before coming to UMD. He also had an injury-plagued season in 2012-13, finishing the year with 28 points in just 25 games played in the regular season.
That trio will join four others who signed early national letters of intent for the 2013-14 season, those being forwards Dom Toninato, Alex Iafallo, Kyle Osterberg, and defenseman Dan Molenaar.
