Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman runner Samatha Rivard and track and field head coach Joanna Warmington have each been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced on Monday.
Rivard has been named the USTFCCCA Central Region track athlete of the year, that after she won both the 5,000-meter run and the mile run at last week's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championships.
She qualified in four events for this weekend's NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships, but she will only be competing in the mile, the 3,000-meter run, and the distance medley relay.
Warmington, meanwhile, was named the USTFCCCA Central Region coach of the year after she led the Bulldogs to the program's first NSIC title in 10 years. She also helped her athletes win four NSIC individual titles and watched her team qualify for eight events at the NCAA championships.
