Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) football team is ranked second in this week's American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) Division II top 25 poll, remaining behind top-ranked Pittsburg State.

The Bulldogs beat Southwest Minnesota State 45-20 last Thursday night in the 2012 season opener, but did struggle for much of the first half in that contest.

Pittsburg State received 28 of a possible 29 first-place votes, with fifth-ranked Wayne State receiving the other. UMD had received five first-place votes in the AFCA preseason poll.

The full results of this week's AFCA poll can be seen on the American Football Coaches' Association web site.

UMD opens the home portion of its 2012 schedule this Saturday, with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff scheduled against Winona State at Malosky Stadium in Duluth. That game can be seen on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
