Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) senior runner Cole Topefer has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Central Region track athlete of the year, it was announced on Monday.

Last week at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championships, Toepfer finished first in the mile, second in the 3,000-meter run, and third in the 5,000-meter run.

He will now move on the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships, where he will compete in just the mile and the distance medley relay despite also qualifying in the 3,000-meter run.
