Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- St. Scholastica senior cross country runner Chelsea Johnson has been named one of 11 finalists for the 2014 Division III Woman Athlete of the Year award presented by the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards (CWSA), it was announced on Wednesday.
Johnson won the school's first-ever NCAA Division III championship this past weekend, finishing the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21:11.7, putting her comfortably ahead of runner-up Noelle Olson.
The win was a program-reocrd sixth straight for the senior runner, who also set a program record with eight wins on the season.
The victory also means Johnson will be named for a second straight year an NCAA Division III All-American, an honor she earned for the fist time in 2012 after finishing 15th at the national meet.
The CWSA Division III Woman Athlete of the Year award will be voted on by 1,000 participating NCAA institutions at the end of this academic year, with the winner to be announced shortly after that.
