(Duluth) - The St. Scholastica women’s hockey team earned its first ever Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) point but settled for a 1-1 tie in game two of its home series with the Lake Forest College Foresters on Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints move to 1-3-1 on the season (0-2-1 NCHA), while the Foresters see their season-opening five-match winning streak snapped, now at 5-0-1 (1-0-1 NCHA) on the season.

Freshman Gabby Baldassari (Chicago, Ill./Lake Forest Academy ) started her first game in net for the Saints, making 36 saves including 14 in the first period.

The Saints got on the board first as Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) netted her first of the season, a long-range shot with assists from Cara McMannis (Holland, Manitoba/Treherne Collegiate Institute (Pembina Valley Hawks)) and Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall). The goal came at 9:49 in the first, and the Saints maintained the lead throughout the first period despite being out-shot 14-3.

The Saints return to their home ice on Tuesday afternoon to take on their bridge rivals in the University of Wis.-Superior Yellowjackets. The opening drop of the puck is scheduled for 7 p.m.
