Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Duluth native and UMD senior captain Jack Connolly is among the top 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker award, given annually to the best player in men's college hockey.

Connolly was also a top 10 finalist last season for the award and was considered one of the leading candidates coming into the 2011-12 season.

UMD's senior captain was named last week as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) player of the year after leading the league with 43 points in 28 WCHA games.

Connolly also led the Bulldogs in overall scoring this season with 56 points, placing him tied for second in the nation.

The former Duluth Marshall Hilltopper has played in every game for UMD during his four-year career, a span of 163 games going into this weekend's WCHA Final Five tournament.

UMD senior Travis Oleksuk and sophomore J.T. Brown were also named among the top 30 finalists for the Hobey Baker, but neither were selected in the top 10.

The Bulldogs have had four Hobey Baker winners in program history, the most of any team in the nation. They are Tom Kurvers, Bill Watson, Chris Marinucci, and Junior Lessard.

The list of 10 finalists will be pared down to the final three, called the Hobey Hat Trick, on March 29.
