Ex-'Dog Stapleton Notches Assist in U.S. Win

Minsk, Belarus (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) standout Tim Stapleton notched an assist to help Team USA past Switzerland 3-2 in the prelims at the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships on Saturday.

Stapleton connected with Peter Mueller on an outlet pass who converted on a breakaway to knot the score at 1-1 in the second period.

Tim Thomas made 27 saves in net for the Americans.

The U.S. (2-0) will play again on Monday, May 12th at 12:45 p.m. vs. Russia.
