Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Former UW-Superior men's basketball star Jake Smith has been named the new head boys' basketball coach at Superior High School, the school's athletic department officially announced on Thursday.

Smith is a math teacher at Superior and spent the past two seasons coaching the Spartans' junior varsity squad. He takes over for Dave Kontny, who resigned his post in August.

While at UW-Superior, Smith was named four times to the all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team, and he left as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,910 points.
