Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former Duluth East soccer standout Kelsey Kehtel has committed to playing for the St. Scholastica Saints in the fall of 2011, according to Saints head coach Dave Reyelts.
Kehtel was part of a Greyhound team that advanced to the first round of the 2010 MSHSL Class AA state girls soccer tournament, and also led her Gitchi Gummi U17 Classic I team to a runner-up finish in the East district while leading the team in scoring.
“It is great to add local talent to our program, and I had the pleasure of coaching Kelsey in club soccer and look forward to continuing as her coach for the next four years,” Reyelts said. “Kelsey is a physical player who competes every minute she is on the field. She has worked hard to improve the technical part of her game and I believe she will continue to be a scoring threat at the college level."
Kehtel is joined in the Saints' 2011 recruiting class by Forest Lake's Danni Firkus, Andover's Paige Hines, and St. Cloud Tech's Casey Mitchell.
The Saints won the UMAC regular season championship last season but fell to Northwestern 1-0 in the postseason title game, narrowly missing out on the Division III NCAA tournament.
St. Scholastica will open play in 2011 on September 1 with a road game against Macalester, and will open home play on September 3 against the University of Dubuque.
