Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Four UMD women's hockey players have been selected by their national teams to play in the 2012 IIHF Women's Hockey World Championship.
Haley Irwin, Jennifer Harss, Pernilla Winberg, and Tea Villila will all play for their home nations in hopes of winning a gold medal.
Irwin and Winberg won Olympic medals in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games; Irwin captured a gold with Canada, Winberg a bronze with Sweden.
Those two will skate for their respective countries, and Harss will skate for Germany and Villila for Finland.
That group of four will join 11 former Bulldogs' players and coaches in the tournament, incluidng Jenny Potter, Elin Holmlov, Kim Martin, Carolina Oullette, and Julie Chu.
The world championships will get underway on April 7, with the gold medal game set to be played on April 14 in Burlington, VT.
