Hermantown, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Hermantown, Minn. native Drew LeBlanc has been named one of five finalists for Sports Illustrated's male college athlete of the year award, it was announced on Wednesday.
LeBlanc won the 2013 Hobey Baker Award as the top player in NCAA Division I men's hockey, that after leading the nation with 37 assists and adding 13 goals for St. Cloud State.
The former Hawks standout was also named the 2013 Premier Player of College Hockey and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) player of the year.
Having signed a one-year contract with the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks on April 12, LeBlanc is now overseas with Team USA at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship.
The other men's finalists for the Sports Illustrated award are Michigan's Trey Burke (basketball), Cornell Kyle Dake (wrestling), USC's Khaled Holmes (football) and Duke's Tyler Thornton (basketball).
Beginning on May 8, fans can vote for their favorite athlete at the Sports Illustrated web site.
Both the men's and women's winners will be featured in the May 27 edition of Sports Illustrated, which will be available on newsstands on May 22.
