Colorado Springs, CO (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Jim Scherr was introduced Wednesday as the first-ever commissioner of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

Scherr has previously served as both the CEO of the United States Olympic Committee and the executive director of USA Wrestling during his 20 years in sports management leadership.

The NCHC is the newest conference in men's college hockey and includes last year's NCAA national champion UMD Bulldogs.

The eight-team conference will begin play in the 2013-14 season and will include Colorado College, Denver, North Dakota, St. Cloud State, Miami (OH), Nebraska-Omaha, and Western Michigan.

Scherr will start immediately in his new position, beginning to build a staff and work on marketing strategies for the new league.
