Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women's hockey assistant coach Steve Macdonald has resigned his position, effective immediately, the school announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Macdonald had been with the Bulldogs the past three seasons, helping UMD to an overall record of (50-45-11) in that time. He doesn't yet have any specific post-UMD plans, but he is currently part of the Canadian national team pool.

"I consider myself very fortunate to have been a part of a program with such a great tradition of success," Macdonald said of UMD. "I am thankful for the opportunities UMD and the city of Duluth has given me and am excited for the next stop in my coaching career."

UMD will conduct a national search for Macdonald's replacement later this month.
