Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Duluth, Minn. native and former University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) offensive lineman Garth Heikkinen has been busy looking for a job, with hopes that he finds one this weekend.
Heikkinen is a late-round hopeful in this week's NFL Draft and says there are several teams who seem interested in signing him to a contract.
"I've been getting calls from a couple teams," Heikkinen said. "They've told me to stay close to my phone on Saturday, the last day of the draft. If that doesn't happen, there's still interest for the priority free agrent route. Sometimes that's even a better situation, in that you get to pick where you want to go and put yourself in the best spot."
Heikkinen collected a school-record 11 All-American citations during his time as a Bulldog, with another school-record eight of those being first team selections.
Should he be drafted this weekend, Heikkinen would become just the seventh UMD player to be taken in the NFL Draft and the first since offensive lineman Brent Griffith went in the seventh round in 1990.
