Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The No. 19 University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team heads to Minneapolis this weekend to take on long-time rival and top-ranked Minnesota in a non-conference clash.
For the first time since 1965, the Bulldogs and Gophers are not in the same conference. UMD is now in the NCHC while Minnesota made the move to the Big Ten Conference, both in their first year of competition in their respective leagues.
Even without WCHA points on the line, Hermantown, Minn. native Adam Krause knows the guys will still be excited to take on the Gophers this weekend.
"They're Minnesota," Krause said. "You always want to beat them and beat them on their home ice in front of their fans. Everyone in Duluth knows that."
Friday's game will start at 7:07 p.m. at Mariucci Arena, while Sunday's game this weekend is scheduled for a 4:07 p.m. start time.
