Los Angeles, CA (Northland's NewsCenter) --- After a year in which former UMD Bulldog captain Jack Connolly won nearly every individual award for which he was nominated, it may count as somewhat of a surprise his name wasn't called at the 2012 ESPY Awards.

Connolly was one of five nominees in the category of Best Male Collegiate Athlete, an award that was presented on Wednesday night to former Baylor football player Robert Griffin III.

The former Duluth Marshall Hilltopper won the fifth Hobey Baker recipient in UMD history this past April, that after playing in a school-record 166 consecutive games during his four-year career with the Bulldogs.

He helped lead UMD to its first-ever NCAA national championship in 2011, and he leaves the Bulldogs having scored 197 career points.

The other three nominees were former Kentucky basketball player Anthony Davis, former Florida baseball player Mike Zunino, and former Stanford football player Andrew Luck.
