Ashland, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Northland College head baseball coach and Assistant Director of Athletics Stein Rear resigned on Friday to become the head baseball coach at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisc., the college announced.

“The position at Carroll was an opportunity that my family and I could not pass up,” said Rear. “I’ve truly enjoyed my three seasons at Northland College and I wish the team continued success as they move forward.”

The LumberJacks qualified for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) tournament in 2012 and 2013 under Rear's watch. He also led them to their first overall winning record since 2006.

Rear had 11 players earn All-UMAC honors while coaching as well as 20 players honored on the UMAC All-Academic Team.

"I am disappointed to see Stein go, but I understand," said Wilson. "We are appreciative of the effort he has put into our baseball program.”

A national search for Rear's successor will begin immediately.
