Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- After being officially announced as the newest University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women's hockey assistant coach last week, Gina Kingsbury has now arrived in town and has started working with the Bulldogs.
Kingsbury comes to UMD with an impressive hockey resume, including two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada, but she said Thursday it was the Bulldogs' history that really impressed her.
"Well first of all the tradition here is just enormous. It's one of, if not the best program in the country," she said. "I sometimes have to pinch myself and realize that I'm here and I get to work with this beautiful program."
Kingsbury comes to UMD after a four-year stint as assistant coach at the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton, British Columbia. She also had experience playing against the Bulldogs in college, having played four seasons at St. Lawrence.
