Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Wisconsin (UW) head football coach Bret Bielema has accepted an offer to coach at the University of Arkansas, the Razorbacks' athletic department officially announced on Tuesday evening.
The 42-year-old Bielema had been with Wisconsin since 2004, taking over the head coaching job in 2006. In his seven seasons as the Badgers' head man, he's led the team to a (68-24) record and four years with 10 or more wins.
"I was very surprised when Bret told me he was taking the offer from Arkansas," UW athletics director Barry Alvarez said in a statement. "He did a great job for us during his seven years as head coach, both on the field and off. I want to thank him for his work and wish him the best at Arkansas."
The Badgers won the 2012 Big 10 Championship and will play against Stanford on Jan. 1 in the 2013 Rose Bowl, but it has not yet been determined if Bielema will be on the Wisconsin sideline for that contest.
It's expected that the University of Arkansas will officially introduce Bielema sometime on Dec. 5, but a time and place has yet to be set for that event.
