Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- NCAA Division III football teams are usually not allowed padded spring practice, but because St. Scholastica has scheduled an international exhibition game, the Saints are an exception to that rule.
The team put the pads on for the first time Wednesday afternoon, that marking the team's third practice of the 2013 season. Even with the team padded up, head coach Greg Carlson said the hitting would be somewhat limited.
"You've got to do just enough to get them polished, to get them game-ready," Carlson said, "but if you go a little overboard, then you get unnecessary injuries. So we're going to try to be smart and ease into it."
The team will now break for final exams before coming back to practice about a week before its May 18 spring game in Canada.
