Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The St. Scholastica football team departed on Thursday bound for Winnipeg and the program's international exhibition game, which will be played May 18 against the East Side Eagles.
The NCAA allows Division III teams one international spring game every four seasons, with the Saints' last contest coming in the spring of 2010 when they won 31-9 against the Manitoba All-Stars.
"It was a huge step for our football program in 2010," St. Scholastica head coach Greg Carlson said. "Not only the camaraderie that came with it, but when we started practice that next August, I thought we were two weeks ahead."
The Saints were also allowed padded practice this spring by the NCAA, something that is not permitted for Division III schools unless they are participating in an international exhibition.
